How to Reset Your HustleTycoon Progress
Want a fresh start (not a prestige)? How to fully reset HustleTycoon — and how that differs from prestiging your empire.
Sometimes you don't want to prestige — you want a genuine clean slate. Maybe you rushed your first few tiers, want to relearn the game from scratch, or you're handing your device to someone else. Whatever the reason, this guide covers how to reset progress in HustleTycoon completely, and — just as importantly — how a full reset differs from prestiging your empire. Mixing the two up is the most common mistake, so let's clear it up first.
Reset vs. prestige: they're not the same
HustleTycoon has two very different ways to "start over," and only one of them is a true wipe.
- Prestige ("Sell Portfolio") is a strategic reset built into the game. You cash out your empire for permanent Equity Points and start the business ladder again — but you keep your long-term progress.
- A full reset deletes everything, including the permanent progress prestige is designed to protect. It puts you back to the very first vending machine with nothing carried over.
If your goal is to get stronger and progress faster, you almost certainly want to prestige, not reset. If you truly want to erase the save and begin as a brand-new player, read on.
Why players want to start over
Before you wipe anything, it's worth naming what you're actually after — because in most cases prestige gets you there without the loss. Common reasons players reach for a reset include:
- "I made bad early choices." You spread cash too thin or ignored managers. A prestige fixes this instantly and makes the relearn faster.
- "I want the beginner experience again." A full reset is the only way to genuinely feel like a first-time player.
- "I'm giving my device to someone else." A clean local save hands them a blank empire.
- "It's a challenge run." Some players enjoy racing from zero with no permanent bonuses at all.
If your reason is on the first line, prestige. If it's one of the others, a full reset is the tool.
What prestige (Sell Portfolio) does
Prestige is the intended "fresh run" loop of an idle game, and it's not the same as throwing your progress away. When you Sell Portfolio in HustleTycoon, your businesses, units, and current cash reset, but you keep:
- Equity Points and everything bought in the Equity Shop
- Research nodes and per-business capacity upgrades
- Achievements and any capital coins you've earned
Those permanent bonuses make your next run dramatically faster — that's the whole point. The sell threshold rises each time and there's a short cooldown, so prestige is a milestone you build toward rather than spam. If that sounds like what you actually want, our beginner's guide explains when to pull the trigger, and the game manual details every bonus you keep.
How to fully reset your HustleTycoon progress
A full reset isn't a prestige — it means erasing the local save so the game boots as if you'd never played. Because HustleTycoon stores your save locally on your device (in the browser's storage), a true reset comes down to clearing that saved data for the game:
- Open your browser's settings and find site settings or cookies and site data.
- Search for the HustleTycoon site.
- Clear or remove the stored data for that site only — don't wipe every site unless you mean to.
- Reopen HustleTycoon. It will start completely fresh: new empire, no upgrades, no coins.
That's it. There's no version number, patch, or download involved — it's a browser game, so the save lives in your browser's storage and clearing it is the reset.
Important: a full reset is permanent and local
This is the part people wish they'd read first. Because a full reset deletes your local save, it cannot be undone — there's no "restore last empire" button after you've cleared site data. A few things to weigh before you do it:
- You will lose your Equity Points, research, achievements, and coins — all the permanent progress prestige normally protects. If you only wanted a faster fresh run, prestige instead.
- If you have a cloud-saved account, clearing local data may not be enough. The game can re-sync your empire down from the cloud when you sign in again, so to truly start over you'd sign out first or start a genuinely separate save. See how accounts and cloud save work.
- Consider backing up instead. If part of you might regret it, create a free account first so your current empire is safely cloud-saved — then you can experiment without losing the original.
What about the installed app?
If you added HustleTycoon to your home screen as an app (a PWA), it still uses the same local browser storage under the hood. Clearing the site's data through your browser resets the installed version too, since they share the same save. You don't need to uninstall the app to reset — though you can remove the icon separately if you no longer want it. Either way, an installed app that's signed into a cloud account will pull your empire back down the next time you launch it, which is exactly why signing out matters if a true wipe is your goal.
Which one should you choose?
For almost everyone, prestige is the answer: it gives you the fresh-start feeling while making you permanently stronger. Reserve the full reset for when you genuinely want to be a new player again — a clean demo for a friend, or a from-zero challenge run. Curious how this compares to the wider genre?
